The all new Pioneer 700-4 by Honda, a definite winner as the most versatile 2 or 4 person Side by Side UTV (Utility Task Vehicle) available
We went on our annual family camping trip into the back country between the old toll booths on the Coquihalla Hwy and Tulameen BC. With hundreds of miles of logging roads, they ranged from very well maintained, to deactivated 4×4 roads with massive trench drains (cross-ditches) that would be challenging for any off road vehicle.
This year we decided take out the all new Honda Pioneer 700 – 4 UTV / side by side rental as we were with my wife and two younger boys (along with other family and friends that had rented their own AVTs). It fit (with no problems) in the back of our 2012 GMC Sierra 2500HD short box (with the tail gate down), and weighing just under 1400 pounds, we barely noticed it was there. Once everyone got a chance to try the Honda Pioneer, they were instant converts and abandoned their own ATVs.
We went for 5 days, put on 100 plus miles, and burned just over 20 litres (5.5 gallons) of fuel. During the trip I put the Pioneer to its limits (while driving without the kids of course) and was pleasantly surprised! The drive train is responsive, smooth, and the engine is quiet driving at all speeds. Comparing with other brands that I’ve owned, driven or rented, the Honda Pioneer 700 – 4 is the most comfortable and versatile UTV on the market – even fully loaded with 4 people. The front seats are awesome, the foot rests are brilliant, has functional cup holders in the doors, and the rear cargo box can dump AND convert into 1 or 2 extra seats with high back rests and seat belts that are at least as comfortable as the front ones.
Honda did a fantastic job thinking this one out, they are the last to market and have obviously learned a great deal from their competitors who paved the way in the UTV/XUV market.
